ABOUT US

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We love our wine and our mission is to bring you the best examples from all over the world, made by smaller, ultra passionate boutique-style producers who are not interested in selling their lovingly handcrafted products to the supermarkets or big high street chains. We believe that wine should be fun and that everyone’s tastes are different – hence our large selection of wines at great prices. Tasting is a subjective experience and we are keen to introduce you to wines that suit you personally. Our staff are always able to help by giving extra information on the wines and help you make the best choices for you. Our events are always informal, fun and suitable for anyone – not just people who ‘know about wine!’

We hope that you will find The Oxford Wine Café to be a small haven of quality in an increasingly busy world where you can meet friends and enjoy the wines you want at a great price.

All wines are served in top quality Riedel glassware and regular informal tasting events take place on the premises presented by Winemakers, Journalists and Masters of Wine.

SENIOR MANAGEMENT TEAM

Laura Perez de Albeniz Aguirreche

Manager

Laura joined us all the way from sunny Spain. She completed her WSET Level 2 Award in Wines with the company in April 2019.  She is partial to a robust Chilean Carmenere or one of our distinctively unique craft beers. She is a champ in the kitchen, bringing a certain Spanish flair to our food.

Josh Webber

Manager

Josh joined us in March 2017, after previously running a successful hotel in Somerset. Moving to Oxford, he has pursued his passion for wine by completing his WSET Level 3 Award in Wines with Distinction and is a Certified Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers, always trying new wines to develop his palate. Favourites of his include a good Oregon Pinot Noir and he loves a glass of English sparkling wine, especially Furleigh Estate. He’s also partial to a Cornish Pilsner from time to time!

Matt Whitaker

Manager

Matt is the latest person to join our management team in October. He holds his WSET Level 3 Award in Wines and is also a Certified Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers. His favourite wine region is Jerez and, of course, his favourite beverage would be a glass of sherry – any sherry!

OUR STAFF

As well as our full time and regular part time staff we are lucky to attract a wide range of interesting and well informed part time staff from all around the world. Whilst some stay for long periods, others move on – such is the nature of the business. The staff however are carefully chosen for their combination of wine knowledge, café or restaurant experience, personal skills and their ability to keep calm under pressure.

We very much hope that they make you feel welcome and that you enjoy your experience at The Oxford Wine Café!
